A few weeks ago I stopped off at the Battle of New Bern battlefield park. From the get-go I was very impressed with the quality of the little park. There is a trail that goes through the woods and it is very picturesque. I loved the small straight trees that fill the forest. They let plenty of sunlight through to make a very interesting HDR shot.
This site was where 11,000 Union troops, led by General Burnsides clashed with 4,500 ill-equipped Confederates. The battle wore on in the swamps and in the end, the Union troops marched into New Bern and occupied it for the remainder of the war. Hiking though the site and looking at the swamp and inhospitable environment, I can’t even imagine the struggle that the soldiers went through fighting here.

Today has been what I like to call a miserable day. It has been overcast and unbearably hot and humid. Here’s a shot from when I visited my family back in western Pennsylvania a few weeks ago. Temperatures were in the 70’s, no humidity and plenty of sunshine…those were the days! Hopefully if you are dealing with this eastern North Carolina weather, or any sub-par weather anywhere else in the world, this helps cheer you up and cool you off (or warm you up)!
