Entry | Atlantic Beach, NC
It’s been a great while since I’ve shared a beach sunset, in fact, it’s been a while since I’ve shot one. But, I’ve had this one in my pocket for a few weeks and felt now was a good time to share.
This was shot on Atlantic Beach, near the Oceanana Pier early this spring. As the sun was setting, I could tell by the streaking low clouds that it was going to be a colorful one. Using a wide angle lens, I was able to get the entire span of the cloud’s arch in the shot. I love how it feels like it’s creating an entry way, a path down the beach. Come on in!
The Shot: Nikon D90, Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 lens. Tripod held, remote fired. f/16, 2”, ISO-200.
Symmetric Sunset | New Bern, NC
After a pretty much grey and dismal day, I noticed the clouds moving very quickly as the sky began to brighten up before sunset. I gathered my gear and decided to go try and grab some sunset shots or maybe a timelapse. As I arrived at the New Bern Grand Marina, the sky cleared and the sun burst through giving the entire area a golden glow.
I was walking along the waterfront when the symmetry of this entrance to the dock caught my eye. It’s a little busier of a shot than what I normally do, but I couldn’t pass up this awesome symmetrical scene!
The Shot: Nikon D90, 8mm Rokinon lens, f/22, ISO-100. 3 exposures manually masked together in Photoshop.
‘Wet Feet’ Limited Edition Print Release
I am proud to announce the release of the second image in my limited edition series, ‘Wet Feet!’ The photo is printed on 8” x 10” 100% cotton rag paper. This stock gives a real feeling of calm and brings out the subdued tones of this relaxing sunset. Each print is signed, numbered and dated and includes a Certificate of Authenticity card which is also signed and numbered to match the print. The first 5 prints in the series are Artist Proofs and are specially marked with an ‘AP.’

Sunset in Paradise | Beaufort, North Carolina

This was shot a little over a month ago when my family was visiting here in Eastern NC. We headed over to Beaufort to walk around the waterfront, visit the many shops and eat dinner. This unseasonably warm afternoon and evening gave way to this truly awe inspiring sunset over the Beaufort Inlet.
The Shot: Nikon D90, 18-105 Nikkor lens, handheld. 3 exposures, tonemapped in Photomatix. Tonemapped file masked back with the three original exposures in Photoshop.
