I recently viewed a very interesting blog post by Tim Gibson of NYCHDR in which he shared a collection of photos of abandoned Christmas trees laying on the curbs of New York City in his post titled Used and Abused. At the end he described the New York Department of Sanitation’s new Christmas Tree Recycling program.
This reminded me of a program in place here in Eastern North Carolina that I really took interest in when I moved here. Trees can be dropped off at Fort Macon State Park and then begin their new life as part of the dunes there. When I first visited the island back in February of 2010, I was very interested in the stumps of Christmas trees that I could see sticking out of the sand dunes. After a little research, I thought it was the coolest way to recycle your tree. All the images in this post were snapped last year when I dropped my tree off.

All photos are single exposure shots. Shot with back up Nikon D40 body, 18-55 lens.

Happy Holidays, Everyone!
I’ve been so blessed to make countless connections and friendships this year and I just want to take a moment to thank you all for a great 2011. Looking back on my work, I can tell that I have grown immensely over this past year. I have everyone who has shared my work, given me feedback, shared tips and info with me and just stopped by to look to thank for that growth. I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday with their families and friends!
I’ll be doing a bit of traveling over the next two weeks. You can keep in touch with me via these social media sites as I may be a little absent from the blog!
Back Home | Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

In just a few short days, I’ll be headed back ‘home’ to Western Pennsylvania. Living so far away now, I’ve grown to really cherish the few short weeks I get to spend in the Pittsburgh area each year. Being around family and friends that I miss so dearly is wonderful and spending time in downtown Pittsburgh is almost magical. I say it all the time, but it’s amazing how much I took the area for granted when I lived there. Rarely would I venture into the city, when I did, it was simply to go to a Pirates or Steelers game and then immediately go back home. When I visit now, I have to drink it in. I grab my camera and a friend or two and we spend hours shooting around town. One of the best parts about being as present in social media as I try to be is that I’ve met a few great folks who shoot a similar style of photography as I do and who live in the Pittsburgh area. Each time I return home it seems like I have ‘new old’ friends to hang out with. With the plans to shoot, visit friends and hang out with family during this trip, I might have to extend my visit for a few days :-)
The shot: Nikon D90, 18-105mm VR lens. 3 exposures, handheld. Merged in Photomatix and finished in Photoshop CS4.

December 2011 Wallpaper Calendar
For these I usually use my favorite image from the previous month. This time though, I thought it would be more appropriate to use a holiday themed photo from last December. If you’ve ever visited New Bern during Christmas, you know that downtown does a great job of decorating and getting into the holiday spirit!
There are a couple of options to download this image. First, click on the little icon in the right corner of the image to view it full size. Then you can right click on it and set it as your background or save it and set it from your local file. If you’re finding the quality isn’t what it should be, you may have a higher-res screen. For those of you, go here and download the highest res file. As always, it’s FREE. Share it with your friends and have a great holiday!
